CSI: Anti-Piracy and Microsoft Certification Webcast

Just in case you missed this cast by Peggy Crowley, Microsoft Anti-Piracy Program Manager; here you go. Well worth watching, if not to cover yourself when asked about Microsoft exams. Remember if you sit a Microsoft exam, pass or fail, you agreed to the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and are bound to it.

There are no items to show in this view.

Recently I made the decision to do some technological Spring cleaning - primarily in Outlook. Currently I use Outlook to send and receive emails (2 accounts), read RSS feeds (currently 40), send and receive NNTP posts (currently 12 newsgroups) with the add-on assistance of NewsHound, maintain my contacts, maintain tasks, and maintain my calendar. And although I go through them daily, I had an issue with follow through. I would leave emails in my inbox, let tasks pile up and allow posts and RSS feeds to go unread. Last weekend I started my cleanup process. Tonight my inbox is empty and now says, "There are no items to show in this view." This in and of itself is a huge accomplishment. Now I have little over a dozen RSS feeds I flagged for interest to read, and a handful of tasks to complete.

Oh, if you ever get the urge to do this; be sure you compact your PST file afterwards. You can delete all you want out of Outlook but it's not until you compact your PST file will any of it make a difference in it's file size. According to Microsoft, "The compacting process does not remove all the free space from the file. It leaves either 16 kilobytes (KB) or 4 percent (%) of the file size (before compacting) whichever is greater." Now with that said, your Outlook 2007 PST file is created and encoded in Unicode format by default. It allows a user-definable maximum file size up to 33TB that exceeds the previous limit of 2GB. So why worry about your PST file size? There is really no reason to. I just don't like unnecessary space being used up.

I'm a sucker for RSS

Trust me, the last thing I need is another RSS feed. I use Outlook 2007 for all my communications including email, RSS and newsreader (with the assistance of a nice little add-on called NewsHound.) Although I am diligent every week with the house cleaning of my PST file, going through email alone can be daunting at times. However, I have to share this one RSS feed with you: http://www.microsoft.com/feeds/technet/en-us/how-to-videos/TechNet_How-to_Videos.xml

How-to videos on the hottest Microsoft technology. Want an overview of Windows Server 2008 deployment? No worries. What about GPOs with Windows and Windows Server 2008? Grab some popcorn and start watching. Hooter's girls demonstrating AD Domain Services? Umm, no. But there is a request in!

Moving On...

I want it to be publicly known that I officially resigned as Chief Information Officer of CertGuard Incorporated this past weekend. My decision was not an easy one, but one that needed to be done regardless. I wish CertGuard Incorporated and its members the best of luck in stopping the ever increasing problems in our I.T. certification world. Opinions that I state here and openly on the Internet are mine and do not reflect the opinions of others.

Well what do you know???

It didn't break my laptop after all... I said this on Vlad's blog and I'll say it here:

I have seen users screw up their computers a lot more than any Service Pack ever released.

Call me insensitive, but...

This whole (RED) bothers me. According to the website, "Thanks to your (RED) purchases, our partners' (PRODUCT) RED contributions to the Global Fund have reached over $50 million. (RED) money is already at work as part of Global Fund grants in Rwanda, Swaziland and Ghana, funding programs with a primary focus on the health of women and children." This in addition to the BILLIONS of dollars (if not Trillions) already donated to this cause over the period of 2 decades to fight AIDS in Africa. I guess I am wrong in thinking that we should clean up our own backyard before helping our neighbor.

Now serving Mr. Alligood, party of one. Your table in Hell is ready...

Will 2008 be Vista's Year?

According to the UK magazine Computer Weekly, one firm of analysts has predicted that one in three enterprises will start rolling out Windows Vista and, by the middle of the year, Vista will be deployed across at least 25% of PCs in North American and European businesses.

Mainstream support for Windows XP is due to end in April 2009, two years following the release of Vista.  It is also suggested that the falling price of PCs with specifications suitable for running Vista, together with the increasing number of Vista-certified applications, will drive the move to Vista.

It looks as if now might be the time for us to start honing our Vista skills, guys ...
